Nevett Ford Board Room Seminar Series

Nevett Ford Board Room Seminar Series

Attend a free Nevett Ford lunchtime seminar and hear the latest legal developments from our lawyers who are experts in their fields.

Seminar Purpose

We limit the number of participants to each seminar to ten.

The format of the seminar is to create an open and informal environment where the presenter(s) and the participants are able to discuss the key issues specific to their organisational needs.  Here is an excellent opportunity to put your questions directly to people who are working on a daily basis in the area covered by the seminar topic.

The presenter(s) actively engages with the attendees throughout the seminar providing sufficient time to answer most questions on an individual basis.

Migration Seminar: S/C 457 Visas and Issues

16 October 2008 12.30 - 1.30 pm

The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Mr Chris Evans recently announced the establishment of an integrity review process of the sub class 457 visa scheme.

The terms of reference include:

  • measures to strengthen the integrity of the program
  • the employment conditions that apply to workers employed under the temporary skilled migration program
  • the adequacy of measures to protect 457 holders from exploitation
  • the health and safety protections and training requirements that apply in relation to temporary skilled workers
  • the English language requirements for the granting of temporary skilled migration workers' visas
  • the opportunity for labor agreements to contribute to the integrity of the temporary skilled migration program.

The Minister has also recently announced a number of new laws designed to protect overseas workers.  The measures provide for:

  • expanded powers to monitor and investigate sponsors
  • penalties for employers in breach of their obligations

This is an excellent opportunity to speak with one of Australia's leading migration specialists about proposed changes to migration law and how these changes could impact on your migration strategy.
